Between the accidental discovery and the intentional seeking came this intimate exploration in a friend's shower. November 2nd, Los Angeles—the clear glass enclosure offered a different kind of revelation than the frosted hotel doors. Here, transparency replaced translucency, creating stark honesty instead of soft suggestion.
This work marked a crucial evolution in my understanding of visibility and vulnerability. Without the protective veil of frosted glass, every fold, every curve, every imperfection became undeniably present. The clear shower walls forced a more direct confrontation with my body, pushing beyond the comfort of abstraction into the realm of unflinching documentation.
Inspired by Jenny Saville's monumental flesh paintings, Ana Mendieta's body-landscape dialogues, and Laura Aguilar's radical self-portraiture, I used my own body to create new geometries against the glass. Each lean and press transformed familiar shame into unexpected beauty, discovering how the same body I criticized could create compelling lines and forms when viewed through an artistic lens.
The domestic setting—a friend's private space rather than anonymous hotel—added layers of intimacy and trust to the work. This wasn't performance for strangers but vulnerable sharing within friendship, expanding my understanding of who might witness this journey toward self-acceptance.
Using my cell phone camera, I continued the spontaneous approach that defined this series, but with growing intention. Each image became both document and experiment, asking: what happens when we remove all barriers between body and gaze? What beauty emerges when we stop hiding?
The painterly quality of these photographs—bodies pressed against glass like living brushstrokes—continues the age-old conversation about beauty while insisting that all bodies deserve to be seen as art. This work represents the bridge between accidental discovery and purposeful exploration, marking the moment when vulnerability transformed into visual power.
