#selfieswithfriends
I've been taking selfies with friends for years now. Over 1500 photos. Still going.
It started as practice at being visible—me, someone who spent decades avoiding cameras, forcing myself to show up in the frame. But it became something bigger. Documentation of community. Proof that I exist in relationship, that I'm loved, that I take up space in ways that matter.
The accumulation is the point. Each image is evidence against every voice that says I'm too much, too big, unworthy of being seen. 1500+ times I chose to be present, to be documented, to claim my place alongside people who actually want me there.
This isn't just about selfies. It's about radical visibility in a culture that profits from making bodies like mine disappear. It's about building an archive of joy and connection that directly challenges the isolation and shame I was taught to carry. It's social practice art—community healing through repeated acts of showing up.
Every friend who leans into frame becomes part of this work, whether they know it or not. We're creating counter-evidence together. Building a different story about whose bodies deserve celebration, whose connections matter, what it means to take up space without apology.
The camera stays up high—classic angle, yeah—but after 1500 shots I'm realizing it's not about finding a "flattering" position. It's about seeing myself in relation. About documenting that I'm here, I'm connected, I belong.
If you see me around, let's take a selfie. Let's keep building this evidence.
