For the past decade I’ve been working on a project entitled “Bodies Mapping Time,” whose theme is “A woman’s body is a map of her life’s journey.” These are nude photographic portraits of self-identifying women, collaborative in the sense that each woman has a say in both the poses and the final image that will represent her.
From the moment we met, I hoped Kristine would agree to participate; so I was very pleased when, a year or two later, she assented to model for me.
As all who know her would agree, Kristine exudes joy, strength, and boundless energy; there’s a seemingly permanent smile of optimism on her face that’s quite contagious.
I wanted, however, to portray her in repose, at ease and thoughtful; her and her body at rest, albeit bathed in natural light and the sumptuous luxury of a Renaissance or Romanticist painting.
My hope is that the orchids and roses, velvet pillows and rich fabrics, will invite the viewer to consider Kristine’s softer qualities and her quiet beauty.
Work must be available for the duration of the traveling exhibition, currently through 2022.
We will place "In the collection of..." on the label while on view.
